WXWMFE - Windows X-Wing Mission File Editor
Version 1.0 - Feb 01, 1997

released 'FreeWare' Feb 01, 1997

Copyright, 1997, by Robert S. Delinsky, all rights reserved.

This program will let you edit the mission parameters for any ship/object
in any mission of X-Wing, a game by LucasArts. It is based on Neal Westfall's
program XMB, but does not replace it! This program Will Not let you create
briefings for the missions; for that, you will need a copy of XMB.

Sorry the documentation is so sparse. Rather than delay the release of this
program any longer, I'm releasing it without a good help file. A better help
file will be provided later (when I get it writen :)

Since the documentation is so sparse, I recommend having copies of the
following documentation to assist in creating new missions for X-Wing:

XWMDG - 'X-Wing Mission Designer's Guide' by Christian Schock.

An all-around excellent guide for anything you ever wanted to
know about creating missions for X-Wing. A 'Bible' for any serious
mission builder! (copyright 1994-1997 by Christian Schock)

XMB - 'X-Wing Mission Builder' by Neal Westfall.

The Original dos-based mission builder for X-Wing! (thanks, Neal!)
You will need this 'shareware' program to modify or create briefings
for the missions. (copyright 1994- by Neal Westfall)

'X-Wing, The Offical Strategy Guide' or 'X-Wing, Collector's CD-Rom, Offical
Strategy Guide' both by Rusel DeMaria.

Has hints and tips for completing the missions in X-Wing, along with
information on ship technical specifications, and recommended
tactics. Continues the story of the Farlander Papers. A fun book,
'just to read' :). (copyright 1993- Prima Publishing)

----------------------------------
MAIN WINDOW menu commands:

    File Menu -
Open,Save: Selecting either one of these menu commands will open a
standard windows dialog box. You can change the drive/
directory, select the file to load, or give the file a
                   new name when saving.

NewXWI: Creates a new mission file with 1 ship group. This lets
you define all new ship groups yourself.

Clear: Restarts the program from the beginning, without the
'splash' screen. Clears all mission data, except for the
                   Copy buffer (see below).

        Exit: Exits the program.

If you have changed any data in the current file, you will be prompted to
save the file before the next one is loaded.

Ship/Objects: Opens the 'Ship/Object Group Window'. This window
has 2 list boxes, the left containing the name of all
ship groups in the mission, and the right with all
objects used. This window has its own menu (See below).

Completion Text: Opens a modal dialog box where you can enter up to 3 lines
of text for the mission complete message.

    Help -
Help: Brings up a minimal help display.

About: Shows an 'About Dialog' with typical program information.

The main window also contains the mission time, and a selection for capture
or rescue if your ship gets destroyed or you eject during a mission. It also
displays information on the goals of any DeathStar mission (Tod3 - missions 13,
14). This program will not let you create any DeathStar (surface) missions.

----------------------------------
SHIP/OBJECT WINDOW menu commands:

    Edit -
Edit: Lets you edit the ship/object group data parameters.
Depending which listbox has the focus, selecting this command
will open a window allowing you to edit the mission data for
                the highlighted ship/object group.
You can also double-click with the mouse on the ship/object
group name and have the window appear.

New: Adds a new ship/object group to the mission. Inserts the group
after the high-lighted position. You are limited to a maximum
of 16 ship groups and 28 object groups. The New command will
be disabled if you have reached the maximum number of groups
                permitted for that object.

Copy: Copies the selected ship/object group to a temporary buffer.
You can use this command to duplicate any group in the mission.
It will also let you paste this group into another mission
                file that is later loaded.

Paste: Inserts the Copied ship/object group into the current mission
at the location where the high-light bar is in the list box.
The Paste command will be disabled if you have reached the
maximum number of groups permitted for that object.

Delete: Removes the selected object from the mission. You can delete
all of the object groups from the mission, but at least 1
ship group must remain. There is no un-delete command! If
you need this group later, Copy it first, then Delete.

Swap: Exchanges any 2 groups within the mission. Select the first
group in the listbox, select swap, then select the second
group from the same listbox, and answer Ok. The groups will
exchange places with the high-lite on the first group selected.
Remember to update any mission dependencies if needed.

Summary Info: Displays a window with summary information about the
mission. This data can be printed for later reference.

Help: Brings up a minimal help display.

----------------------------------
SHIP WINDOW and OBJECT WINDOW:

This is where you actually define the actions for the ship/object group.
The window contains the controls for defining the various parameters of the
group. Explanation of the control functions will be provided in the updated
help file. For now, refer to the documentation included with XMB or use XWMDG
for what the controls do. Click on OK to save changes, before accessing any
other window in the program! When changes have been accepted, you should see
'Updated!' in the frame at the bottom of the window. Ship data may be printed
for later reference.

CREDITS

X-WING is a trademark of LucasArts Entertainment.

Thanks to Neal Westfall for creating one of the first X-Wing mission editors,
XMB. (Without it, the continuing saga of the 'Rebels against the Empire'
couldn't continue :)

My thanks to Chris 'Electro' Shock [74632,2454] for writing the excellent
tutorial, "The X-Wing Mission Designer's Guide" (XWMDG.ZIP) on how to use
Neal Westfall's XMB utility program.

All the utility files mentioned (XWMDG and XMB) can be found in the Space
Combat Forum (GO FSCOMBAT) on CompuServe.

Please give me feedback on likes/dislikes on the use of the program,
and any suggestions on a way I might be able to improve it. I can be reached
on CompuServe in the Flight Simulation Forum, or via E-Mail. Thanks.

Enjoy,
